TikTok user statistics
TikTok is available in more than 150 markets around the world in 39 languages. The latest official statistics indicate that there are 500 million TikTok users (monthly active users) worldwide.
However, the 500 million figure dates back to an official announcement in July 2018. ByteDance has not released any updated information. We can assume that, given its enormous popularity, the number is higher. In September 2019, TikTok VP Blake Chandlee said that while the amount was less than $1 billion, it was not half that level either.
Some agencies put the figure at 800 million. This would make it the sixth most used social app in the world. Only Facebook’s various resources, YouTube and WeChat come in front.
App Annie’s State of Mobile 2020 gives us a ranking of apps based on number of users. This puts TikTok in sixth place among global users – the highest not belonging to Facebook or Tencent.
We know that Instagram has 1 billion users. Alipay recorded 785 million users out of eight users in the third quarter of 2019. That helps us narrow it down somewhat, and has Chandlee suggesting that TikTok’s user base is growing towards a billion.
